Harvest Festival – Down on the Farm

Well, we DID have a full barn and what a wonderful day it was! Although it was bright there was a chill in the air as about 200 adults and children gathered in the Barn on East Scryne for this service. The Porter family had lined the walls with round bales and it was great to see so many youngsters sitting on the bales during the service. Many folk had brought blankets and picnic chairs for the service and there was a real sense of coming together to give thanks “for all good gifts around us”. There was also a wonderful display of foodstuffs which were taken to the Arbroath Food Project the next morning and a letter of thanks has been received, noting that “some of the bags contained wisps of straw”!

After the service, there was the opportunity for some home made soup and bread and the barn was turned very quickly into a dining room where the different varieties of soup were quickly devoured, although there was sufficient left over for the Youth Group to have some in the evening!

Thanks to everyone who helped in ways great and small to make this a very special service, and one which I think captured the essence of harvest, celebrated as it was in the middle of a working farm with a number of visitors from the area as well as some Polish workers.
