This year’s Friendship Circle programme is nearly at an end with only our outing to Abernyte Antiques Centre to look forward to.
We had a big turn out for Matthew’s piano recital with several visitors from other Carnoustie congregations.
Our speakers from Arbroath Street Pastors were extremely interesting. Street Pastors is a national Christian organisation which began in London. The Arbroath team go out on Saturdays late in the evening and into the night. They offer practical help and support to young people and others whom they meet. Some may need first aid, others a pair of flip flops instead of the high heels they are wearing, others just need someone to listen. The team try to make sure that everyone gets home safely and no-one is left in a vulnerable situation. We were very impressed with this example of practical Christianity which is well received in Arbroath; our speakers told us that they have never encountered any violence towards them.
Arbroath Street Pastors are keen to talk to organisations and we can thoroughly recommend them; please speak to me if you would like details.
Our last talk was on the Brae Riding for the Disabled Centre near Dundee. They offer a marvellous service for children and adults; riding acts as physiotherapy and improves posture and co-ordination as well as being a lot of fun. The centre has ten horses and over a hundred volunteers who range in age from fourteen to ninety three!
Friendship circle resumes in late September when we look forward to welcoming our present members and also anyone who would like to join us, please speak to me if you need any further information. SW.
