This is possibly the earliest that the word Christmas has been mentioned in a newsletter! But there is a reason! I am planning that we have a Chrismon Tree in Church for Christmas this year – and the preparation of this involves you!
A Chrismon Tree is decorated with Christian symbols in white or gold colours and the lights on the tree are white. The decorations are handmade, which is where you come in. On Saturdays 28th November and 5th December there will be workshops in the Panbride Hall where the various symbols will be made. There will be craft materials available and salt dough shapes will be made and fired in the microwave, then painted. Symbols made will include stars, crosses, alpha and omega shapes, doves, angels, fish and many more. If people are unable to come to the workshops, shapes can be made using wool or crochet. All we ask is that they are in white or gold. Templates can be provided. Please put these dates in your diary. Then on 12th December, the tree will be decorated with the symbols in preparation for the Nativity Service the next day. After the festivities are over, something is done with the tree, but that is for the next newsletter! MSB
