DID YOU KNOW?
Bishop Sunil Mankhin, Bishop of Kushtia arrived in the UK on 11th May, for a meeting in Edinburgh with the ecumenical Bangladesh Group. He also managed to catch up with two of his lecturers from his time as a student at St Andrew’s College in Dhaka – Father John Webber, who made the trip from Cardiff and Rev Eileen Thomson who is now retired and lives in Edinburgh.
Sunil then made his way to Carnoustie for a return visit. He visited Carlogie School and visited some of the classes where he spoke about life in Bangladesh. He also managed a return visit to the Ganges Restaurant for a meal with some of the folk who had visited Bangladesh over the years on work camps or exposure visits, and a great night was had by all. He also managed a visit to Arbroath Abbey and Brechin Cathedral and the Brechin Garden Centre.
It seems likely that there will be “No waiting at any time” restrictions at both sides of the junction of Panbride Street and Arbroath Road at some time in the near future. This means there will be double yellow lines at the junction. Please be aware that these might be in place by the time we return to Newton Church at the beginning of September. Please respect these restrictions. The Church will not be responsible for any parking tickets issued!!
Long Service Certificates.
At the morning service on 22nd June, 6 elders were presented with Long Service Certificates signed by the Moderator of the 2013 General Assembly, Rt Rev Lorna Hood. They were John Ramage, (45 years), Willie Porter (41 years), Archie Leiper (35 years), John Porter (35 years), Syd Robb (34 years) and Tom Black (30 years). This represents a total of 220 of service to the Church and to our congregation. Certificates are presented after a minimum of 30 years’ service. This was an opportunity to thank these gentlemen for their years of service.
Church Cleaning Teams.
Some of the members of the Cleaning Teams have decided to “retire” from this work and in thanking them for their work over the years, we also take the opportunity to thank all the ladies and gentlemen who week by week help to keep the church and halls clean and welcoming. If you are able to help for about 1 hour approximately every 5 weeks, please contact Pat Taylor (853919). The work is much appreciated and this voluntary service has resulted in new friendships within the various teams. Thank you one and all.
Banner Group. The Bunting which was made for the East Haven 800 project was displayed in the Library in June and all the contributions, including those from the Youth Group can now be seen on the East Haven website www.easthavenangus.co.uk
The Pentecost Banners are now on display in Panbride Church and the group will be making an additional Pentecost Banner for 2015 when the date of Pentecost falls during our time in the Newton Building.
CHRISTIAN AID NEEDS YOU!
For a long number of years there has been a Christian Aid Committee in the town and over the years have raised a substantial sum of money through their collection during Christian Aid Week, Coffee Mornings, Songs of Praise services and other events. A number of people who are involved with the Committee have been so for many years. Each congregation is usually represented by two people, and in recent years Carnoustie Panbride has been represented by Beth Lee-Smith and Frances Bicket.
However a number of the collectors are now no longer able to help which has meant that some areas of Carnoustie cannot be covered during Christian Aid Week and so, the Committee is looking for new people to join. The work is not onerous, but is very worthwhile. In the longer term more people will be required on the Committee as people retire or move away. Please, will you consider this as part of your service to the Church and the Community?
Millions of people across the world depend on the support that the local committee is able to give by way of helping people to feed themselves, to live healthy lives and to make a living to be able to send their children to school. Will you consider helping? More information can be had from either Beth or Frances.
A REMINDER:- CALENDAR 2015 – APPEAL FOR PHOTOGRAPHS
It is intended that we produce a calendar for 2015 the theme of which will be something like “Life in Panbride…and Beyond”. To achieve this we are looking for photographs which reflect our parish and surrounding areas. Some suggestions for subjects are Seasons, special events, sea and shore, gardens, golf, heritage items (buildings or artefacts), farming, community activities such as Gala Day. The list is only constrained by your own imaginations.
To be acceptable for printing, photographs should be crisp and well-focussed. Those of you with digital cameras should use a setting of “fine” or similar, depending on what camera you have. Photographs do not have to have been taken in this current year – photos from the past may well be appropriate.
The cut off point for submission of photos will be around Harvest Festival time in order that the calendar can be edited and sent to the printers and therefore become available in time for those wishing to send abroad.

If you have hard copy photos these can be left at the church office in the pigeon hole for Helen Harley. The photos should be in an envelope clearly marked with name and address of the owner so that they may be returned after scanning.
Soup, Sweets, teas and coffees.
Minestrone, Carrot and Coriander, Broth, Mushroom, Roasted Red Peppers, Banofee Pie, Pavlova, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Rhubarb Crumble are just some of the delights which have been on offer over the last few months at the Soup and Sweet Lunches. With the return of services to Panbride Church, these have now finished until the last Sunday of September. Any donations at these lunches, together with donations at the teas and coffees on other Sundays have been put into the Panbride Hall refurbishment fund. A big thank you to all those who give their time and soup making/baking talents to these events. The fare is greatly appreciated by people of all ages and there is always a nice atmosphere on the hall. Thank you everyone.
